Pros of being a wedding photographer

  1. Creativity: The basic of any kind of photography is a personal style that a photographer maintains. Clients usually look for those photographers with a passion and particular style in their clicks which represent creativity. Creative photos stand out in the crowd and is a huge motivation for the job. There is a lot of experimentation.
  2. Meeting variety of people: The short term project of wedding photography will give you the opportunity to meet a lot of people with varied interests. You should make sure that you give your best to produce a great work that all these people can relate and connect to.
  3. Boredom: This is not a sitting job and has a lot to explore with zero boredom. Multitasking to improve your knowledge and get a better personality through the avenues open to a lot of challenges every day keep you busy and engaged throughout the job.
  4. Tax Waiver: Good things come with some good machines so are the photography gear. To be a professional and take up wedding photography as a career you have to rent or purchase the best up to date gear. Such expenses will waive off your taxes.

Other than the above pros you also have the freedom of being self-employed if you can get projects on your own along with enjoying travel, continued learning, experience good moods and are always in a world of celebration.

Cons:

  1. Expensive machines – For that perfect and professional image, you have to spend some good money on the right gear. The cameras, lenses, photo printing machinery, flashes etc. are all expensive in their top quality and you cannot compromise on quality which will, in turn, reduce the effect of your images.
  2. Stress – The job is stressful meaning if you are a wedding photographer, your chance is only to get things right, the entire event is dependent on your camera for their memories and you can't suck it up or laze around just like that. A big responsibility that comes with a lot of stress on your shoulders.
  3. Time – Time is the ruler of any business and so it is in post processing of an event. It is important both for the photographer and the client to understand that editing, posting, toning, computer culling, rearranging are all part of the job which consumes a lot of time and it needs to be explained well to the client in order to avoid the client from fuming at you. The client should know that a delay will always create some better work.
  4. Auditing – The job of being a wedding photographer is complex in terms of accountability. Since it is a creative job, you just can put down figures on papers. Hence it is required to hire a professional auditor who can keep account of all that happens in your office or with your projects.

Communicating what exactly is expected by the client to the photographer is the most tedious part of the job which if miscommunicated can burn up the whole project. Along with the above cons, there are also other disadvantages such as a no fixed salary or income in the work, Preparation time is not as expected because it is always an on call job. The biggest con is the job being unaccountable is money is a flaw, you never know how much you can earn until you get the cash on hand or are paid for what you have done. Satisfying a customer is the most important part of this job

It is now left to you to decide on being a wedding photographer. It is always the passion of an individual and his lifestyle that reflects the type of photography he can do.
